How We Work

Our Process — Start to Finish

No guesswork. No surprises. Every job follows the same proven steps — built on 40+ years of experience and industry-standard methods used by professional contractors across South Carolina.

1

First Contact

Free On-Site Walkthrough & Assessment

Every job starts with a face-to-face visit — no online estimates, no guessing. A Guttermen technician walks your roofline, inspects existing gutters, fascia, and downspout positions, and identifies any drainage problems before a single measurement is taken.

Why this matters

Remote or phone estimates routinely miss roofline pitch variations, fascia rot, and drainage obstacles that affect material sizing. The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA) recommends on-site assessment as the baseline for accurate gutter system design.

2

Measurement & Design

Precise Measurement & Gutter Sizing

We measure every run, calculate drainage load by roof surface area, and select the correct gutter profile and size. Standard SC residential homes use 5" K-style gutters; high-pitch or large-span roofs often require 6" gutters to handle volume safely.

The standard we follow

Gutter sizing is calculated using roof drainage area (sq ft) and local rainfall intensity data from NOAA's Precipitation Frequency Data Server. South Carolina's high-intensity summer storms require conservative sizing — undersized gutters overflow even when clean.

3

Written Estimate

Detailed, No-Surprise Quote

You receive a written estimate that itemizes materials, linear footage, downspout count, and labor. No all-in mystery numbers. If we find fascia rot or structural issues that need addressing before installation, we tell you upfront — not halfway through the job.

SC contractor obligation

SC Contractor's Licensing Board regulations require licensed contractors to provide written contracts for work above $200. We do it on every job regardless of size — it protects you and holds us accountable. You can verify our license at the SC LLR Contractor Lookup (License #34560).

4

Installation Day

On-Site Seamless Fabrication & Installation

Seamless gutters are formed on-site using a continuous roll-forming machine loaded with .032" aluminum coil stock. Each run is cut to exact length — no seams along straight runs, which is the leading cause of leaks in sectional systems. Hangers are installed every 24" (or 18" for heavy-debris areas), exceeding the minimum 36" standard.

Material standard

We use .032" aluminum — the industry-recommended thickness for residential gutters per SMACNA guidelines. Thinner .027" aluminum (common in budget installs) dents more easily and holds less structural integrity under heavy debris or ice load.

5

Pitch & Flow

Correct Slope & Downspout Placement

Gutters are set at a slope of ¼" drop per 10 linear feet toward each downspout — enough to keep water moving without pooling, but not so steep it's visible from the street. Downspouts are positioned to discharge at least 4–6 feet from the foundation, directed away from doors, HVAC pads, and landscaped beds.

Why pitch matters

A flat gutter holds standing water, breeding mosquitoes and accelerating corrosion. Too steep and water rushes past downspout openings during heavy rain. The ¼"/10ft standard is cited in both SMACNA's Architectural Sheet Metal Manual and IRC (International Residential Code) drainage guidance.

6

Quality Check

Flow Test & Joint Inspection

Before we leave, we run water through every section to verify flow, check every mitre joint and end cap for sealant integrity, confirm all hangers are seated flush, and ensure downspouts discharge correctly. Any issue found at this stage is fixed on the spot.

Sealant standard

All inside corners, end caps, and outlet holes are sealed with a gutter-grade urethane sealant rated for aluminum — not silicone, which adheres poorly to coated aluminum and fails faster in South Carolina's heat cycle. Urethane remains flexible across the full SC temperature range (0°F to 120°F+).

7

Job Complete

Final Walkthrough, Cleanup & Sign-Off

We walk the job with you before we consider it done. All packaging, old material, and debris are removed from the property. You confirm you're satisfied — and if anything isn't right, we fix it before we leave. That's our "You'll Love It" promise, and it's been our standard for over 40 years.

BBB accountability

As an A+ BBB Accredited Business since 2008, we have a formal dispute resolution obligation. Every customer has a direct path to escalate if work doesn't meet the agreed standard — that accountability is baked into every job we do.
